• What is an AED?

An AED stands for an automated external defibrillator. This device is used to detect and shock an abnormal rhythm called Ventricular Fibrillation (or V-Fib) in the heart during cardiac arrest.

• Do you offer Baby / Infant CPR classes?

• Are there practice CPR tests?

No. In 2015, when the American Heart Association released new guidelines, they removed the requirement
for testing of non-healthcare students.

• Can’t I get free CPR classes at the Fire Department?

There's no such thing as free! Certification cards from the AHA, American Red Cross, and ASHI all cost money. Some Fire Departments may offer 'free classes' but you will stay have to pay for the card.

Not all fire departments offer CPR classes or any CPR classes at all. Due to budget cuts and internal demand, fewer and fewer fire departments are offering CPR to the community. Those that still do generally have limited availability.

• Why can’t I find hospitals offering CPR classes?

Increasingly, hospitals are no longer providing CPR classes to the community (non-employees). The reason for this is due to budget cuts and/or a rising demand internally for CPR classes.

• Do you offer free CPR certification classes?

Periodically throughout the year, STS offers free CPR awareness training in the community, but there is no certification. Certification cards must be purchased by a training center from the AHA, Red Cross, ASHI, or
equivalent organizations and are far from free!

• How are your classes different from YMCA CPR classes and Red Cross CPR classes?

Sargent Training Solutions offers nationally recognized and accepted CPR classes. Many employers are no longer accepting Red Cross CPR classes and traditionally the YMCA uses the Red Cross curriculum.
Furthermore, STS's training is typically less expensive than YMCA CPR classes as the cost for Red Cross certification cards is more than double that of the AHA.

• How long is a CPR certification valid?

Students are issued a 2-year CPR certification upon successful completion of the class. Certifications expire 2 years later, at the end of the month. So if you took a class on Jan 1, 2020, you would expire on Jan 31, 2022.

• Is there an online certification?

If you’re looking to do your class online, the official course title is called “Heartsaver CPR AED Online”. Individuals can purchase the online course from AHA: https://shopcpr.heart.org/heartsaver-cpr-aed-online. After completing the online portion you must complete the skills portion at a local authorized AHA training center to receive a certification. If this is your first time taking the CPR class STS highly suggests taking the class in person.
Online is not OSHA compliant.

• Is the CPR online certification a renewal class?

The AHA CPR classes online are the same regardless if this is your first or fourth time taking the course.

• Can I get my First Aid and CPR certification online?

Yes and no. Any class that is completely online is generally not accepted by employers as OSHA and state requirements mandate hands on training.

However, if you take an online blended class where part of the course is done online, and then you perform your skills in front of an instructor, that is a legitimate way of getting your CPR and First Aid certification
online.

• Do you offer a First Aid class online?

Yes. The AHA online blended learning class is nationally recognized and widely accepted. In addition to the First Aid class online, students need to complete a hands-on skills session. Click here to sign up for a skills

After completing the CPR training online and the skills session, students will receive a First Aid certification.

• Can I get a First Aid only certification?

Yes. First Aid classes can be taken as a separate module from CPR.

• What is First Aid training?

First Aid is the care given to someone who has suffered sudden illness or injury. The goal is to preserve life either by fixing the injury or getting the person to a higher level of care.

• Is First Aid certification different from CPR?

Technically, CPR is part of First Aid care. However, in terms of courses, they have generally considered two separate things because of how much information and practice is involved in CPR alone.

• What does it mean to be First Aid certified?

Being First Aid certified means that a person has been trained in the past two years to provide basic care to
the most common and/or life-threatening sudden illnesses or injuries.

• Is there a First Aid certification test?

No. Students are no longer required to take a test in order to obtain a First Aid certification card. This is a change that happened when the 2010 CPR guidelines were released.

• Is First Aid and CPR certification the same thing?

First aid classes typically cover a wide range of ways you can assist a person who has been hurt. Meanwhile, CPR classes focus on helping a person who is undergoing cardiac arrest.

• How long do CPR and First Aid certifications last?

A CPR and first aid certification typically last for two years.

• Is online CPR certification valid?

Although OSHA does not state who can provide CPR training, they emphasize that getting it online is insufficient.

• Can You Do First Aid and CPR Training Online?

We highly recommend our face-to-face CPR First Aid classes at our Training Centers. Nevertheless, we also offer you the option for online-blended learning for your convenience.

• How Long Does First Aid and CPR Certification Last?

Our AHA-recognized First Aid CPR Certification is valid for two years up to the end of the month when the course completion card was issued. You have the option to renew your certification before the end of this period.
